La Vanoise Ski Tour - France
Tour Description:
In the heart of the French Alps. One foot into the famous National Park de la Vanoise, the other into the greatest ski area of Les Quatre Vallées… The itinerary combines the discovery of unforgettable sceneries, great skiing and luxurious comfort. This new generation of mountain hut offers you the best service, excellent food as well as jacuzzi, sauna and hammam. You will also have the occasion to spend some time in the other more alpine huts at Péclet Polset and Felix Faure at the Col de la Vanoise. This tour has been designed for skiers looking for good skiing in great sceneries combined with all details to make your trip comfortable and unique.
Your mountain ski guide will assure you the finest technical and cultural experiences. His familiarity with the area and its people will provide you with a safe and complete experience.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Welcoming in St Martin de Belleville. Prepare equipment and review tour. Possibility to spend the day discovering the extraordinary ski area of the Quatre Vallées.
Day 2: An easy start using the lift of Val Thorens to reach the Col de Thorens, our starting point. From the Col ascend to the Col de Gébroulaz (3434 m) and the Dôme de Polset (3326 m). From the top we will ski down on the beautiful glacier de Gébroulaz to reach the Péclet Polset hut. You will discover and enjoy the French hospitality.
Day 3: Departing from the Péclet Polset Hut, we will climb the Col d'Aussois to reach the summit of the Pointe de l'Observatoire (3015 m). We will then ski down to the comfortable hut located at the Roc de la Pêche (1911 m). This is an unusual type of accommodation in the French alps, they provide great comfort, delicious meals, sauna and Jacuzzi and hammam… This will be our base camp for the next three days.
Day 4: With a light day pack we will ascend the Roc Blanchon (2747 m), just above the hut. On the way up, we will stay on the sunny slopes to make that day unforgettable before descending the northern side hopefully in some powder snow. Back to the roc de la Pêche.
Day 5: The climb of the Pointe du Genepy (3550 m) will be our high point for this day followed by a marvellous alpine descent to the Roc de la Pêche. The Pointe du Genepy is one of the highest point in the Dômes de la Vanoise. From the top you will enjoy the magnificent views over the French Alps, from Briançon to Chamonix.
Day 6: An easy start, skiing out the valley to Pralognan en Vanoise. Lunch in town before getting on the lift that will shorten our climb to the refuge du Col de la Vanoise.
Day 7: After ascending the Col de la Grande Casse we will enjoy the thrill of our final descent to Champagny en Vanoise.
Day 8: Optional : for good skiers we offer the opportunity to climb the Grande Casse and ski its impressive west face (steep 40 °).
Difficulty:
This is an intermediate tour and requires a good level of fitness. Participants must be good skiers able to perform strong stem christies while carrying a pack in variable conditions: Powder, hard spring snow, crud and everything in between. Basic mountaineering skills are helpful. Your guide will be happy to teach you these skills during the tour.
